Transcript 0:00 [upbeat music] Welcome to another episode of Bedlam Buzz. It's Jeremy, Mr. Loyal and True, wearing his, uh, Oak- uh, Arkla- what was it? 0:18 The... What's the name of the cap? Oklahoma. Ah, Oklahoma. Such a cool cap, and I'm wearing green. You have one. I know. I just picked the OSU one that you gave me. 0:27 [laughs] So yeah, I mean, we, I was thinking, I, I try to guess which cap are you gonna wear? What color scheme? I, I thought maybe you would be in peat green. Well, uh, v- it was very tempting, very tempting. 0:40 Yeah But, uh, I decided, uh, I'm kind of going all black because, you know, I, I may, I messed up the quarterbacks last week, the backup quarterback, uh, on some obscure question. So, uh, I apologize. 0:50 Every- thank you everybody for pointing that out. I, I could see the kid in my brain. Uh, I, I talked to that kid. I just had it totally backwards, so, but, uh- Well, it's not, not the only thing we had wrong. 1:00 I'm wearing green because this week's game is going to be in South Bend, Indiana, of course. Yep, yep, playing Notre Dame. Um- Playing, playing Notre Dame. Uh, so la- last week as we were talking- No, no, 'cause- Yeah. 1:12 Yeah. Go ahead. Uh, go ahead. Go ahead. Go ahead. I was just gonna say, as we were talking, we kept referencing the game in Blacksburg, which of course is where Virginia Tech plays. Yeah. 1:23 And I think you were referencing it in terms of Virginia because West Virginia was playing Virginia. Right. 1:27 But of course, Virginia, as we both know, sits where, uh, uh, you know, uh, Thomas Jefferson's estate or whatever is close to there. It's Charlottesville. Mm. He founded the University of Virginia. Mm. So it's there. 1:39 Blacksburg is- Monticello. Yeah. Oh, oh, the, what did I say? Oh, n- you didn't, but it's Monticello is where- Oh. Oh, Monti- yeah, Monticello. Yeah. Jefferson. Um, and, uh, Blacksburg is where they do Enter Sandman. 1:50 Clemson's where they rub the rock. Right. Virginia Tech's Enter Sandman. Right. Uh, by the way, my sister-in-law, I think my sister, sisters-in-law- Is she... Wait, is she a UCLA fan? 1:59 Well, the, no, my mom, uh, my mother-in-law rather, my mom. [laughs] My mom is dead. Uh, she's an Ohio State fan. She was a Buckeye. Buckeye. I know. So my mother-in-law, uh, big UCLA fan. 2:13 My wife, graduate of OU, also grew up a UCLA fan, but my sisters-in-law, they attended a Virginia Tech game, and they actually kind of were scared. It's not that the people were scary, it's that whole, 2:28 it's not the Enter Sandman thing. They were trapped in, I think, in the area where all of that happens, and I think it kind of freaked them out. I think that would be awesome. 2:39 I, I, I would e- yeah, but, uh- But I'm the loud music guy, so. Well, that's why my hearing is bad. I'm a loud music guy- There you go... also. [laughs] Facts. Anyway- Facts... 2:47 that's a lot of mea culpas to say that we're here to try to get it right and talk about Oklahoma State, West Virginia. That's a maybe on get it right. We'll do our best. 2:57 Uh, looking forward to the Cowboys going three and one this week, but it ain't gonna be easy. And Jeremy, tell us about it. I think it's going to be a, uh, contrast in styles. 3:06 West Virginia's gonna wanna run, OSU's gonna wanna throw. Yeah. Uh, uh, last week West Virginia only threw, I think 17 passes, um, which is a shame because they have the best quarterback u- from OU's roster last year. 3:20 Um- Of course [laughs] So I had to get it in. Yeah. Um, 'cause, uh, Hawkins Jr. 3:26 play, played at OU last year and now he's at West Virginia, and he's s- he's absolutely s- setting all kinds of, of records and stats and getting all the wins for West Virginia. 3:35 He is the key, and like I, like I mentioned, I think we'll try and do s- a similar type of defense that we did against, uh, against Oregon in that we're gonna, uh, hold the end to force them to either come up the middle or to force him to stay in the pocket and throw, because we should be able to win some of those one-on-ones on the outside. 3:54 Mm-hmm. Right? So it's gonna be a bit of a more controlled defense on our side, and they are gonna wanna establish the run, just like you said. They have a, a guy that carried the ball like 30 times last week. 4:03 They are, uh, Rich Rod i- is a gr- good, good, good coach that adjusts to the personnel that he has. So clearly they have some good offensive linemen that like to grind people under. 4:14 Now, Oklahoma State, the way we will counter that is with a defensive line rotation, right? 4:20 We have a lot, we don't have any super superstars on the defensive line, but Oklahoma State has a lot of really good dudes on the o- on the defensive line, I'm sorry. 4:28 And so we will rotate those guys in, uh, to keep them fresh to try and slow down that running attack. 4:36 Now, look for Oklahoma State to take advantage like Murray State did last week and O- and Oregon tried a couple times, that when, when the offense changes players, the defense is allowed to change players, right? 4:48 So if the West Virginia offense trades out receivers, then Oklahoma State could use that as an opportunity to change out defensive linemen while also, again, slowing down their rushing attack by not only fresh bodies, but also by letting that clock run. 5:04 Now conversely, Oklahoma State, while we have some really good running backs, again, five, six of those guys got carries last week, it is the passing game that's drives this offense. Mm-hmm. Right? 5:15 And those guys could catch out of the backfield, so they can, the running backs will be, um, you know, part of both the passing and running attack. 5:22 But you know, this is a case where those, those, we gotta win the one-on-ones on the outside. The ones you wanna win on defense, you have to win on offense. You gotta break free. But that's the thing about this offense. 5:33 Even in, in the Tulsa game, the receivers were running free. This offense is designed to where those receivers will get free, and I guarantee you Saturday night those receivers are going to get free. 5:44 The question is does Mesiamaker have enough time to set his feet to get the right throw to him? And so I kind of think that that's gonna happen. He is, he's trusting his offensive line. He did it against Oregon. 5:55 He did it against M- Murray State. Like we said, we even changed our attack with him. You know, he didn't run the ball, uh- Mm-hmm... 6:01 against Murray State when there was opportunities there, but he didn't need the practice. 6:06 And so, uh, you know, and so it's going to be a, quite a interesting contrast of style with Rich Rod trying to kind of ground and pound while, uh, Oklahoma State's kind of going air raid e- esque. 6:19 Yeah, so do you see this being a high-scoring game? [sighs] I don't. 6:25 I, I don't see this being a high-scoring game because, again, West Virginia is going to try and control the tempo, and Oklahoma State has the ability to ground and pound as well, right? 6:36 We have the ability, uh, unless it's inside the red zone where Oklahoma State is still not very good. Mm-hmm. 6:41 Uh, but i- in between the 20s, that running attack's really good, and it can grind, and it can wear down the defensive line. 6:48 So if our coaches feel that we have an advantage with our offensive line over their defensive line, then I expect us to also firmly establish the run, which means the clock goes faster, which means not as many points. 7:01 Now, I still think it's going to be a low 30, upper 20s game, but I don't think it's going to be a 45, 41 type of, type of affair. You know, I... That's exactly what I was just wondering. 7:12 The total is gonna be 60 and a half. Vegas agrees with you. Um, but it's, it's... I think it thinks it's gonna be a close game. Uh, the spread is still, uh, Oklahoma State 1 1/2 point dog. Okay. 7:26 Well, that means that once that line's shifted, then Vegas kind of feels it got it right because the money's coming in even, and you know how that works. 7:34 Um, and, and that's, man, that's a tight line, but, well, I might be tempted to take the Cowboys. Um, yeah, I'm, I'm very tempted to take the Cowboys. Look, as somebody who watched Michael Hawkins Jr. 7:45 play last year, and I like him. I liked him at OU. I didn't love him. There is a reason he only threw 17 times. He wasn't a great throwing quarterback. 7:58 Um, he got the chances in 2024, not so much in 2025, but he's a fantastic runner. You can plan for that, can't you? Well, yeah. 8:08 And, uh, again, y- if you rewatch the Oregon game, you can see the defensive shift a little bit. 8:14 The defensive line shifted to a more of a holding pattern as opposed to trying to crash in hard every play from the outside. Mm-hmm. Right? 8:22 Plus, of course, we had the advantage Dante Moore was tipping his plays, so we knew when to crash and when not. Right. Well, p- uh, uh, Hawkins Jr. won't be doing that i- is my assumption. 8:33 So we still can play that soft out- outer edge, and by that, I mean where you absorb the play as opposed to trying to go around it. Because if you try and go wide around those tackles, Hawkins Jr. 8:47 can hit that seam- Up the middle there... and he can run. Yeah. Like you mentioned, he can run. 8:50 So that's why I think the defense is going to play, again, a little bit softer edges, harden up that middle, and try and keep him in that pocket. Because if we keep him in the pocket, they have two choices. 9:00 It's either risk him passing from the pocket or running straight into our defensive line. Yeah. And- And, and personally, I hope we try and... I hope he tries. 9:11 Uh, I hope if they beat us, it's because he had a great game from the pocket. Oh, right. Right? Right, right. Which, again, we never really saw that at OU, so you have to- Right... kind of dare him to do that. 9:22 I mean- Yeah... talk about tipping your plays. If he was in for OU, it meant he was gonna run. Um, so it's just because they never gave him a chance. I mean, it's one of the- Right... true shames. 9:32 His father's an OU guy, and they never really gave him a chance at OU [clears throat] because coaching was never able to adjust, [clears throat] excuse me, what they taught to the player. 9:43 He's being coached by Rich Rodriguez now. Between Rich Rod and Eric Morris, you have guys who can adjust what they're doing offensively to the personnel. Right. 9:54 Absolutely, and, and that's what we have seen not only from game to game but with in-game adjustments, right? Again, with that Oregon adjustment. 10:02 Murray State, there wasn't a lot of adjustment 'cause there didn't need to be. Right. Um, after their first drive, the Oklahoma State defense saw what they were doing and just shut it down. Yeah. 10:11 Like, that was, that was, that was plain and simple. That's why you really can't look too much at that Murray State game other than the fact that Oklahoma State did exactly what they needed to do, right? 10:20 They stayed mostly healthy, and they got big wins and big stats, and a lot of guys got, got playing time, which might be valuable down the, down the line. Yeah. But yeah, Rich Rod is... 10:30 He can coach those type of quarterbacks, right? He can coach the mobile running quarterbacks whose strength is more run than pass. So it wouldn't shock me if they didn't try some rollouts, right? 10:42 If West Virginia doesn't try to roll him out- Right... to give him a read option pass play, uh, on the edge. 10:49 And 'cause honestly, that's what I would do if I were coaching against Oklahoma State defense is I would, with a quarterback like Hawkins Jr., I would roll him out, and that way if the defense breaks down at the line, he can run. 10:59 If they come in, then he has the throw option. And plus then he's also outside of the line of scrimmage, which means if he throws it away, it's not a, it's not a loss of yards. Right. 11:09 I- it'd be really smart from their perspective. It's also, uh, where Baker Mayfield used to have a lot of his success, although Hawkins frankly is a better runner than Mayfield. 11:18 Um, defensively and, you know, when you're looking at the game in play by play, you think about how OSU might be able to contain Hawkins in a way that the average fan can understand, and I would say think about it this way. 11:33 If second down is second and nine, second and eight, good. If they're always at second and three, second and four, not so good. Well, yeah. 11:43 I mean, that's just basic, you know, defensive football is you wanna put them in, in a long of down and distance as possible. For- it'll force him to throw. Yeah. Right. Right. 11:53 And, and Oklahoma State, however, used to have a real problem with whenever a team was at third and long, it was a guaranteed first down, right? For several years. 12:02 It was third and short, the defense would toughen up, but for some reason, third and long, it was like a gimme. This defense has not done that. This defense had Tulsa in some thirds and longs and held them. 12:11 Held them on a couple of fours. Uh, same thing with Oregon. Oregon went for fourth down multiple times. Didn't get it, okay? And, uh, so you know, Murray State again doesn't really factor here. 12:21 So you wanna put him, again- A- absolutely in those long down in distance. 12:26 Definitely on second, you want them starting from behind, and then on third down as long as possible, 'cause then again, that gives your defense more time, and even if he maybe breaks containment a little bit, one of our linebackers can fly over and tackle him before he gets to the sticks. 12:40 Yeah, I see, you know- And our linebackers make a lot of tackles because the defensive line's job is to hold them up, and then the linebackers come in and clean it up. 12:48 I'm glad you mentioned the, uh, uh, linebackers because in my game notes here I have that, uh, Ethan Wazzlowski and Isaiah Chisolm might be the two most important Cowboys nobody talks about on Saturday. 12:59 West Virginia is sixth nationally in rushing offense at 291.3 yards per game. Thank you, Michael Hawkins. And, uh, they'll be eyeballing. They'll, they'll be the eyes on Hawkins pretty much all the time. 13:12 Right, and, and I'm perfectly okay with that. I think all Cowboy fans are okay with that because it was, again, the, these linebackers that discovered the tell that Dante Moore was doing. Mm. 13:21 They picked it up, and that shows you high, high football intelligence. Mm-hmm. I mean, 'cause you're able to read what his body language is doing before it even happened, and so that is a tremendous advantage. 13:34 That shows you how smart they are. And again, both those dudes make a lot of tackles, and they both can make solo tackles. 13:41 And again, we have other linebackers out there that can do that, and they're gonna have to make some solo tackles because you will not be able to contain Michael Hawkins Jr. the entire game. 13:49 He will break free a couple times. You just want it to be for 5 or 10 yards, not 20, 25, 35 yards. Right. 13:57 And so with the defensive line, if they do their job of just stuffing up the middle, that allows those linebackers to come free and they will make the tackle. 14:06 This will be Oklahoma State's first game in adversarial territory. No offense to Tulsa, but that was mostly an OSU crowd. I mean, there were TU fans obviously, but it was closer- Mm... to 50/50. 14:18 This is gonna be in Morgantown, and I read somewhere that they might have a gold rush that night, meaning everybody's in gold. It's gonna be 6:00 PM. 14:24 Morgantown, Baton Rouge, these are, these are places where the fans are largely, they've had a few beverages by that time, and it's gonna be perfect football weather. So they might have a little extra to stay warm. 14:37 We're talking it's gonna be 70s during the day, and it's gonna dip down into the 50s during the game. I sure wish it was like that here, but there, this is the first time. 14:44 How do, how does a team get ready for its first, I mean, real adversarial environment? Well, there's a point to where you can't. 14:55 There's a point to where you just have to go with experience that you have been in, um, these big games other places, right? But w- but, uh, we have a f- practice facility. 15:05 It's not a billion dollar like Oregon, you know? Right. 15:08 Um, so they can pump in crowd noise, and so they have been doing some of that, is pumping in some of that crowd noise, uh, i- you know, to simulate the fact that the, you know, the offensive lineman might not be able to hear, you know, the play call all the time. 15:23 Mm. And then you go to also silent counts. That's what Oregon did. 15:26 That's what Murray State tried to do, is you go to silent counts to where the guard taps the center, or sometimes they'll even, you know, touch each other or hold hands, and when the center snaps, you break hands, and then you're ready to block. 15:37 And so, uh, it, the noise level could also decrease some of the option plays, and I, and I don't mean like running the option, but I mean the option types of plays, like a read option here on run, a read option on the pass. 15:52 Because, um, you're gonna have to be adjusting to a person who might not be able to hear what you're doing, right? 15:59 Now, like the read option that Messamaker ran against Oregon, that was purely him, like, pulling it out and going. Mm-hmm. Right? 16:05 Sometimes you're called a different play at the line because you see how the defense, uh, is lined up, and so you have to adjust to that. 16:12 Well, if you can't hear, you can't adjust to that, so you have to come up with these silent ways to do that. I want to ask you about that because, um, you and I, both musicians, both played the high school band. 16:23 You were in a rock band. I used to play jazz, jazz quartets, quintets, whatnot. 16:28 Um, and when you're playing from the real book, you are constantly counting measures in your head, uh, because you just have this real sheet. 16:36 All four people, five people might not know each other or have never played together, but if you all stay on the same sheet, you're good to go. You're always... 16:43 Even, like, if you ever hear, like, a big drum solo, and you're like, "How do they come back in on time?" It's because everybody is counting in their head. Is that kind of like how a silent count works? 16:53 Does everybody have to be on the same page or just the center and the QB? Well, primarily the center and the QB, but the whole offensive line really needs to be ready, right? They need to be able to figure out. 17:07 That's why sometimes they will touch. That's why sometimes, you know, you'll see them and they'll have their heads turned, their hands down and their heads turned. 17:14 For the receivers and the running back, they can react to the line, just like the defense will react to the, you know, to the ball being snapped. The offensive guys on the outside can do that. 17:23 And I'm sure another thing is that you have to remember two or three of these wide receivers played with, uh, Messamaker at North Texas. 17:30 So I promise you, they have some check bounds that we don't know about, that they haven't had to use or have disguised somehow to where they just know, "Okay, the safeties are, are playing up tight. 17:43 They're trying to stop for a run. So if I hit a seam route here, then, you know, I'm gonna break open." And again, uh, our receivers have been open, and I think some of those are those automatic check downs. 17:54 And so at that point, you just have to hope Messamaker has enough time to see it to get the ball out. 17:59 And again, the last couple of weeks, he's been very patient in the pocket, and he's been finding those, finding those receivers. 18:06 So, uh, i- there is some snap count where you do have to time it, where it is after I say, uh, "Omaha," uh, that it's a one, two, three. 18:17 And so sometimes you do have that, but it really depends on field position, it depends on, uh, well, field position primarily. It's which side of the field, if you're on one hash or the other. Mm-hmm. 18:30 If you're closer to your sideline, it'll be a little bit quieter than if you're closer to the West Virginia sideline. Same thing if you're in the 50 yard line, it won't be as loud as if you're at the 10 yard line. 18:39 And so you can modify your plays that way. But yeah, absolutely, sometimes there are silent counts where it, again, it's just like that drum hit, just like being a musician. You know, it's, it's go two- Yep... 18:51 three, four, boom. Yep. And you just have to, you have to constantly be paying attention. Um, okay, so in the, in the first game, we're watching that and turnovers were clearly... 19:02 You know, we talked about that first, um, that first drive that didn't result in a tou- touchdown being sort of like a turning point in the game, a big one. 19:09 But, and there were, you know, the Cowboys lost the ball four times, but they also lo- they really lost it seven because they g- were turned over on downs. I don't know if you know this, but 97 games played since 2008. 19:21 What do you think OSU's record is when it wins the turnover battle out of 97 games? Since 2000. Yep. 97 games, uh, winning the turnover battle, I would say Oklahoma State is, uh, 85 and 13. You were very close. 19:37 It was 83 and 14. 12. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. And so, and that's, so they, they gotta win the turnover battle. I think, uh, you know, um- I was real close. [laughs] Yeah, I mean, yeah, you were right there. 19:48 Um, I- Went off. Yep... 19:49 I have, I have no idea what I would've guessed, but I think that that means, you know, if the linebackers are focused on keeping track of Hawkins, that allows your defensive ends to kind of get wi- you know, get wild with it and just start punching at the ball. 20:03 Cornerbacks too. Well, uh, y- I mean, if they come there, but again, if we want our defensive ends to hold position, again, some of that is read react, some of that is, you know, situational. 20:14 If it's third and 23, you might crash, because if he runs, you still have time to tackle him. If it's- Right... third and one, you might hold where you are, right? 20:23 But yeah, and the linebackers themselves might not be solely responsible for Hawkins, though. 20:27 They're gonna be, they're, you know, we might even have a spy, where that spy just kind of goes where he goes to free up the other linebackers. 20:34 But, but, uh, uh, if w- even if we have multiple linebackers, they're not all gonna be focused on, on Hawkins Jr., right? Mm-hmm. 20:41 And it's just a simple fact of if the defensive line does their job and holds up, the linebackers will be free to make those tackles on him as opposed to trying to run him down and make the tackle, right? 20:53 They might make the tackle sideways as opposed to down the field. Question for you. On the official injury list, Jacob Sexton is apparently still listed as questionable. Is he out for the year? Well, uh, I don't know. 21:08 Hmm. Interesting. How about that? How about that? And, and if, if I did know, I could not say. That's right. That's right. We have a man on the inside, if you will. By the way, great show. 21:18 Have you ever watched The Man on the Inside with Ted Danson? I have not. It's fantastic. So remember this, um, it was a broken bone this time. How quickly can a broken bone heal? 21:30 That's the question you need to answer, and if you can answer that, you might be able to get an idea. Personally, I would think for that kid's mental health, I say- Yeah... kid, he's probably 24 or 25. 21:40 He's a, he's a grown man, you know. Um, of course I'm in my 50s, so everybody's a kid to me. Everybody's a kid. Uh- Yep. But, but, uh, do, do that math and, um, and you might be right there. 21:52 Well, and it's just like, I don't know if you heard the story this week about David Stone, about apparently his kneecap popping off when he was doing walkthroughs. 21:59 A, I'm not sure I totally believe that story, but B- [laughs]... uh, Venables was like, his pain is two out of 10. Um, he, he might be ready to go this week. 22:07 I'm like, "Uh, r- well," I'll tell you what, if my kneecap pops off, I'm done. Like, I'm not playing this sport anymore. I want my kneecap. It's not the only injury that Oklahoma State's dealing with right now. 22:19 Uh, Chris Barnes is questionable, uh, undisclosed. Owen Hammond, tight end, is out. Um, anybody else that you know of from the Oklahoma State side? 22:29 No, and I would expect if, if Barnes is needed, I would expect him to play. Okay. 22:35 Um, but it's a case where, you know, you don't, if you g- the more time it takes to heal or the more time you get to heal, the better off you're gonna be until it's ready, and then once it's ready, you've gotta go, right? 22:47 Or you'll start losing conditioning and all the rest of it. And so I think he's in a position to where if we need him out there, that he will be out there. But the plan is hopefully for him to not be as needed- Right... 22:59 and, you know, and we win the game in other ways. Yeah. Well, White, Young, Boeck. I mean, y- I mean, you got a, that's a- Coleman... one, two combo. Yeah. Uh, t- uh, some of the other tight ends. 23:10 Again, the running backs can catch out of the backfield, so- Yeah... there are still, there are still options. 23:15 So West Virginia, they have a number of injuries here, including tight end Cam Ball, defensive tackle Nate Gabriel, uh, left guard Nick Krahay, and a name you might be familiar with, wide receiver Jaden Bray. 23:27 They're all expected to play this week. Yeah. But tell us about Jaden Bray. He used to be a Cowboy. Yeah, he was a, a bigger type of, of body that, um, kind of a, I wanna say kind of a possession receiver. 23:39 I sure am glad you asked me about these random assorted players from- [laughs]... 50 years ago. Um, but, uh, Bray was a kid that we did not wanna lose. Yeah. But, uh, he left during the Gundy era and, uh, 23:53 you know, sought green- greener pastures elsewhere. And let me tell you, last year against Oklahoma State, uh, he had a really good game. So, and, you know, it'll be interesting. 24:02 Now, he doesn't have any association with the new staff. 24:06 There's probably only three or four players left on the team that he would know anyway, so it's a fresh start, so there's not gonna be like any of that personal animosity or anything like that. But he was a good kid. 24:16 He was a, a good receiver. Uh, very, very solid. Is he super flashy? Uh, he would have a moment or two of super flash and then had some trouble- Sometimes holding onto the ball. Mm-hmm. Right? 24:29 And so we have to hopefully take advantage of that. But, uh, but even though again, there's no personal animosity, it's still your old school, your old team, and you want to show them what they missed out on. Mm-hmm. 24:39 And, you know, Tulsa had several former Oklahoma State Cowboys, and now they just crowing all day because they whooped the Cowboys, uh, again, and deservedly so. 24:48 And that's what Brae is, is wanting to do is, uh, you know, is to get, get another win over, over his old school. Yeah, speaking of Tulsa, they're off playing Arkansas this weekend. I think they beat the Hogs. 25:00 I think they'll beat the Hogs too. Yeah. Uh, Ark- And I hope they do. But Arkansas- Well... uh, Arkansas is, uh- What a situation... falling on some hard times. I don't, I, I like Arkansas. I want them to do well. 25:11 I feel like they're practically Oklahoma. I mean, they're, you know, they're right next to the, the state. They're close. 25:16 Well, well, uh, until Oregon, Arkansas was the last, uh, FBS team that Oklahoma State had beaten, and that was several years ago. Mm-hmm. So [laughs] uh, that shows you where they are. If that- Yeah... 25:27 team could beat 'em, uh, they might be in some trouble. But, uh, Tulsa's a salty club. Yeah. And, uh, and they find ways to win. And so I, I, I kind of think the, the Golden Hurricane might do it. 25:39 Uh, this is so crazy to think of. What if Tex- uh, what if Tulsa becomes the group of five participant, 25:46 and OSU runs the table for whatever reason, just saying, ends up in the playoff, and you have a rematch, Tulsa versus Oklahoma State? I'd take that right now. Yeah. Oklahoma State wins going away. 25:55 I'm telling you right now. I, I, I agree. Oklahoma State wins going away. Well, let, let's go- Going away. And I- Well- Tulsa looked better in that first game, it will not happen again if they- No... 26:02 if they did meet up in a, in a bowl or in a playoff. I promise you, Oklahoma State runs away with it. Yep. 26:07 Um, we're looking ahead there, but I'm telling you, I don't, I don't know that, uh, again, we look so stupid, uh, than after the first game. 'Cause beforehand we're like, "This is, it's gonna take a bit- [laughs]... 26:17 but they're gonna be good." And we- Yeah... you know, we're hoping for the same this week. Do you have any predictions? Open the crystal ball. 26:25 Well, uh, again, Oklahoma State's a dog, so everybody, all the Vegas folk and all the money's coming in to where Oklahoma State's gonna lose. Uh, personally, I'd take Oklahoma State and the points. 26:36 I think Oklahoma State's gonna win, uh, probably maybe a 10-point ballgame. And, and, you know, it might be like a, um, or a se- uh, maybe like a six-point game, you know, a couple field goals here or there. 26:49 Um, I think that, uh, Coach Morris, after the Tulsa situation, was like, "We're gonna kick field goals. We have a good field goal kicker. 26:57 We're gonna kick field goals instead of going for it on fourth inside the red zone." So, um, again, I don't think that it's going to be a tremendously high-scoring game. I think that it's gonna be, again, like a... 27:09 Uh, no, I'll say, I'll say this, 31, I'll say 31-24 Oklahoma State. Mm-hmm. 31-24 and, and ran maybe 34-27, but I think it's gonna be about a touchdown win, uh, Oklahoma State. 27:22 And o- one of those scores you just gave would be under the point total, and one would be over. I like 37-28. I think Oklahoma State wins. I think it's over. 27:31 Um, and again, taking the points, that would be three field goals and four touchdowns. Um, I like, uh, uh, Mistemaker to have one on his own. Um, I like Wyatt Young to have one. 27:42 I like Caleb Hawkins to have two, two on the ground. Okay. Okay. So Haki- there's gonna be a lot of scores by Hawkins this weekend. It's Hawkins versus Hawkins, man. That's right. You know- That's right... 27:51 not Hatfields and McCoys. It's Hawkins versus Hawkins. [laughs] I say that because of Morgantown, and of course, uh, you know, it's, it's Appalachia kind of up there, isn't it? Isn't that Appalachia? 28:01 Yeah, they're, yeah, very much. Yep. Any moonshine? Everywhere. Yeah. Oh, yeah, and it's the real stuff, not the sissy stuff you can buy in liquor stores now. Uh, it's the r- it's the real stuff that you might go blind. 28:13 [laughs] So when my first job was in Hugo, Oklahoma, and I lived in a sort of very cheap duplex, and the guy who lived on the other side of the duplex with his wife, his name was Ray. He broke horses for a living. 28:26 He made what I have to think was legit moonshine. He brought some over one time where we were just sitting on the porch. I took one drink of it and my body seized. 28:37 It was, it was just sort of like on the i- you know if you ever had a leg cramp and you can't help it, it just seizes? It's like your throat seizes. You're like... [gags] It's like, uh, hot wings times 100. 28:49 Now mind you, after you get done with the, the first gulp- [laughs]... it's, it's okay. You can handle a little bit. But that first one, man. 28:56 Well, at that point, if you can't taste anything, it really [laughs] doesn't matter, so. Right. And if your body's already frozen, you might as well go for it, I guess. I don't- 100, 100%... no, that's fascinating. 29:05 That's fascinating. Well, this, this game will be at 6:00. Of course, the OU-Georgia game is at 2:30, and I only say that so that, hey, maybe we can watch a little bit of both games. Right. Right. Finally. 29:16 What a novel concept. Well, and, but here's the deal though. Uh, do you really, how much of that Georgia game do you wanna watch? Now I know it's to be determined 'cause you can always turn the channel, but. 29:26 There is a fine line between, uh, root watching and hate watching. So- Oh, yeah, that's fair... it's entertaining either way. Let's, let's do a new segment. 29:35 You suggested this actually last week, and I didn't really prep, uh, for it, but we can do this on the fly. It's called Life Tips with Bedlam Buds. Okay. What, what topic? Do you have one for us? So, okay, yeah. 29:46 So I have a life tip today. And if you have a garden, right, let's say you're going to garden next summer, you know, when it comes out next spring. 29:54 Did you know that if you get a, one of those dog food bags, you know, like a big dog food bag, and you poke some holes in the bottom of it, and then you can plant seed potatoes in that dog food bag, and as, uh, roll it down, and as the pl- seed plant grows, you know, you put the potato down in there, and as it grows, you keep covering up with dirt inside that grow bag, right? 30:18 That contains the water, contains the moisture, but the holes help it drain out so it prevents root rot. 30:23 If you do that, and slowly, it's called hilling, as you build over it, until it's completely out of the bag, you know, you've been rolling the bag up as the, as the potato has been growing, you can produce 10 to 20 pounds of potatoes in about three and a half to four months. 30:42 Fascinating. Uh, now we don't have any dogs here, but- Doesn't matter, you get a bi- bag of dog food anyway. And so you open it up- Well- And you put- Mm-hmm... just the seeds in there and put dirt all over it. No. 30:55 You put the seed potato, right? It's part of the potato. You know, when, when you have a potato that gets old and the eyes start to grow- Yeah... that's becoming a seed potato. 31:04 So what you do is you cut that potato w- where it has multiple eyes, you set it out on a plate outside for, like, three or four days till it kind of scabs over, and then you plant that, then that becomes your seed. 31:17 So you can do two or three of those, put about- Fascinating... four to five inches of dirt, put those on top of the dirt, cover them up to where those, those seeds, or, you know, the eyes are sticking up- Mm-hmm... 31:28 and then that's where the plant grows from. And then from the potato, it extends out to make more potatoes. 31:34 And so as that grows taller, you, it'll p- put a shoot out here to grow more potatoes, and then up here to grow more potatoes. 31:41 So as you're going up, it's building, building, building, and you gotta make sure that you have, again, holes in the bottom so it drains out. Now, you can buy what are called grow bags on Amazon. That's what I use. 31:51 Uh, but I'm gonna try the pota- the, uh, uh, the dog bag thing next summer just as an experiment. But I, I grew potatoes in, in seed bags or in grow bags this summer. Mm-hmm. 32:01 Um, yeah, my, my experience with gardening is pretty much limited to the landscaping out in front of the house, and it's largely been one giant experiment. Um, so, hey, I... But this sounds interesting. 32:14 This is something I could just put in the backyard. It doesn't have to be out in front of everybody, right? Right. No, absolutely. You can put it anywhere- Any-... 32:20 that you can have about six hours of direct sunlight, a minimum six hours of direct sunlight. Um, and yeah, you can do it in the backyard. 32:27 I mean, honestly, you could do it in the, in the garage, uh, you know, if, if it works out- Hmm... right. But, um, I would p- I would leave it outside. Uh, again, make sure it has plenty of water. 32:37 They use more water than what you think. But as long as you have holes where it drains out, you won't get the root rot, and again, you will be growing your own potatoes, which is kind of cool. It is kind of cool. 32:46 How often do you water? Uh, me? I, well, when it's hotter, two or three times a day. Two to three times a day. Just a little cup of water or just little pew pew? No, more than that. Really? Two or three times a day? 32:59 The bigger the plant... The big- the bigger the plant, the more water. Dude, it gets 100 degrees in Oklahoma. I don't know if you've noticed. [laughs] And when it's 100 degrees- Yeah... water evaporates. 33:09 Yeah, well, right. But I mean, like with the yard, it's, we still only use the sprinklers once every other day. How much grass do you eat? I don't eat any. There you go. Does it... And, 33:25 I mean, grass doesn't need as long to grow. Yeah. Grass is not producing fruit, uh, you know, the, the berries, the actual potatoes, so it's not going to need as much water. 33:35 You have to water plants for them to be able to produce. Yeah. Right? I mean, like a watermelon, 98% of that is water- Right... so you have to make sure it has plenty of water. 33:45 [laughs] What about fertilizer or anything like that? Um, yeah, some compost is good. You don't wanna do too much, though. You could grow this in straw. 33:54 You could y- as long as you have dirt on the bottom, then you could just use straw over the top, and as long as it's getting good sunlight from its stem, right, from the green part of the plant, it will be able to produce. 34:05 Uh, and you don't wanna use too much compost or too much fertilizer because it'll give it nitrogen burn. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And that, that... And y- and you don't want that. 34:13 We've got- There's a lot of crops that you can do that to... 34:15 we've got a lemon tree here in the house that we're trying to grow, and it usually takes about three years before it actually starts, you know, sprouting lemons. Uh, but, uh- Right... 34:25 I, I put too much, uh, fertilizer in at the beginning and gave it a little nitrogen burn. But these things are, uh, these things are resilient. 34:33 It's, uh, I, I forgot to water the lemon tree plant and it lost all its leaves and I said, "Nope, I see green right there. It's still good." And then it just grew right back. 34:41 So you have dirt on the bottom, dirt on top- Mm-hmm... dog food in the middle just to sort of hold places in. No dog food. You, no dog food. You, an empty- Well, you said-... dog food bag. Oh, okay. Empty dog food bag. 34:52 Empty. [laughs] Empty. I, I was like, "Where does dog food come into play here?" [laughs] I don't know. It's the, just the bag. Just the bag. Just the bag. A lot of people have dogs, so I said a dog food bag. 35:04 I apologize. [laughs] No. [laughs] That's awesome. Well, if you have a life tip- Or, hey, w- w- Yeah... cat food bag Yes. Is- [laughs] I'm more of a cat guy, although we don't really have any at this point. 35:15 Um, so- Do you want cats? I still got cats. [laughs] No. Uh, because- Okay... y- they, they get stuff all over everything. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. As you ver- very well know. So if you have a life- As I know... 35:28 life tip, please put it in the comment below. Um, that might be telling us not to, uh, lose our day jobs. That might be, um, that might be a suggestion to something that you'd like to know. Ask Dr. Cook. 35:40 That could be also a new segment. Uh, about any- anything- And I have s- I have several more, uh- Oh... ready to go, so. Well, I, I mean- But-... I was, like, trying to think what would, what would I offer? 35:49 I'm like, I don't know that I have anything. I could talk to you about, like, digital tips and maybe, uh- Well, I, I mean, it could be. I mean- Yeah... 'cause my... I'll give another free tip right now. Oh. 35:59 If you like, like, Belgian wheat beer, like- Yeah... 36:02 Blue Moon, there's an Aldi brand, uh, that is a, a Belgian wheat beer that it actually has more citrus flavor, so I personally think it's a better beer, and it's about $3 cheaper. What's it called? 36:13 So if you like Blue Moon- Yeah... go to Aldi. I can't remember right now. Hmm. Um, that's why I didn't say the name. 36:19 Uh, if you go and go to Aldi and get, uh, one of their versions, uh, of the, of the Blue Moon, it, again, it's about three or $4 cheaper a six-pack- Hmm... and I think they taste better. 36:31 That is a saving money tip if you are a beer drinker. Yeah. Um, I am. My favorite, though, is Newcastle Brown Ale. And did, did you know- I, I've had some Newcastle... 36:42 did you know there are two types of Newcastle that is sold in the United States? There is the Lagunitas or whatever that brand is called that's the American version. 36:51 But if you go to the liquor store and pay attention to what's set out, you'll find the one that's actually made by Heineken in the UK. That is the Newcastle you want. That's the OG. Yeah. 37:02 Yeah, you look on there, it'll have something about, a UK label on there. Uh, but yeah, Newcastle Brown Ale, you know, again, that cool star on the lid and all that. 37:11 Uh, I've been to Newcastle, right there where, where, you know, it started. Yeah. So it's, it's kind of fun. I, I love it. It's tasty. 37:17 And, uh, Newcastilians, people who live in Newcastle, Newcastilites, when they, um, want... The big fans of Newcastle Brown Ale, uh, tell their spouses they're going to walk the dog. 37:30 They say, that means they're going down to the bar for a pint of Newcastle. And they might take the dog. [laughs] They might take the dog, yeah. All right, good stuff. We talked Oklahoma Sta- State Cowboy football. 37:41 Uh, we talked a little bit of OU through Michael Hawkins, who made a prediction on this week's game and gave you lots of analysis to pay attention to while you're watching. Now, a favor to us. 37:51 If you have friends who are OSU fans, they gotta get plugged into Bedlam Buds. We do this several times a week. We'll have a post-game on, um, and just content as it warrants. 38:04 Leave a comment, leave a question, share the video. We're trying to grow subscribe, subscribers to attract what? Sponsors. If you're a Stillwater business, reach out to Jeremy or myself and we'll get a sponsorship going. 38:17 And, uh, make sure that you're well included. Maybe the next life tip is about your brand. Absolutely. It'd be a great idea right there. Totally agree. All right. On behalf of Jeremy, I'm Ryan. Go Pokes. 38:30 We'll talk to you later
