A tornado watch has been issued for much of western, central, and southern Oklahoma until 5 a.m., according to the National Weather Service.

Counties in the watch include the Oklahoma City REM Metro area: Oklahoma, Logan, Canadian, Cleveland, Pottawatomie, Lincoln, McClain, and Grady.

Severe weather is expected to impact the Tulsa area after 4 a.m.

All modes of severe weather are likely with this setup, including hail, damaging wind, and tornadoes. Flooding is not anticipated because the line of storms is expected to move fast.

Here’s what the radar looks like as of 10 p.m. Monday:

If this squall line were to produce a tornado, it would likely be of the QLCS variety. Without getting into the science behind them, QLCS tornadoes form along the line. They form with little to no warning, and they do not last long.

However, the damage and injury they can cause is very real.

It is important that you have an overnight plan, including an app that will wake you up in the event of a tornado warning in your county.
