Winter is bearing down on the Sooner State, although the snow totals didn’t live up to initial expectations—not that anybody is complaining much.

The roads, especially in central, northern, and eastern Oklahoma are treacherous.

And, as we noted yesterday, most of Oklahoma will not be above freezing, at least until Friday. For the next two days, the primary concern is extreme, dangerous, life-threatening cold.

The Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management has activated the State Emergency Operations Center to coordinate response efforts. At least 14 shelters have been opened for overnight stays in various cities to provide refuge from the extreme cold.

The Oklahoma State Department of Health has reported 30 weather-related injuries, including 22 falls and 8 transportation-related incidents.
