Fire danger returns Monday as Oklahoma just beginning clean-up
This is a round-up of Oklahoma news coverage for March 17, 2025
Good morning, Oklahoma! There will be a lot of coverage this week about Friday’s destructive wildfires. If you didn’t see our special newsletter on Sunday, it has information on how you can help families impacted.
(Note: Today’s cover photo was taken by Mitchell Alcala with OSU Agriculture)
But we have lots of sports to talk about, too, as both the Oklahoma men and women are going dancing, as are the Oklahoma State women. The OSU men accepted an NIT bid late Sunday night. 🏀
Right quick, though… I’m going to be asking you some questions over the next few weeks that I hope will make the ‘Oklahoma Memo’ a bigger, better, more helpful newsletter. Here is the first question. The data shows that political stories do better than other types of stories, but that might be because more of those stories are being posted.
If you want to rank your Top 3, you can do so after picking your No. 1 choice.

High winds and low humidity caused dozens of fires to race across the Oklahoma plains Friday. By Saturday, the healing had begun.
Jesus Jaime Garcia lost basically everything he had in Stillwater.
He’d only been living here for five months, working as an electrician on the windmills, harvesting the power of the breeze as it sweeps across Oklahoma.
But he was let off work early when the wind started picking up Friday afternoon – gusting as high as 70 miles per hour.
“I went to Walmart to shop,” he said in an interview translated from Spanish. “When I got back here, there was a fire.”
